4140 Alloy Steel – Durable, tough, and forgiving under daily shop abuse. Resists chipping and mushrooming; ideal for heavy, repeated use. (Great on mild steel and non-ferrous materials)
W1 Tool Steel – Higher carbon content allows a harder edge and crisper point. Takes a beautiful polish and holds its tip longer, but slightly less impact-tolerant than 4140. (W1 will hold it’s point better in tougher materials and hardened alloys)
