After spending the past two years forging on a 70lb NC Tools farrier anvil, I felt it was time for an upgrade. As anyone moderately familiar with blacksmithing tools is aware, anvils have become both scarce and expensive. After a good amount of research I concluded a brand new anvil could be had for roughly the same price as a used "antique". After speaking to Steve Fontanini of Rathole Forge, my mind was made up, I wanted the 250lb anvil. I liked every aspect about it: the German style body with side-shelf, the beefier American style horn, and the upsetting block. With that decided it was time for a stand. I had already built a very similar stand in the past for my smaller NC tools anvil, and couldn't really think of much to improve upon. I'm a firm believer in triangular bases as they stand firm regardless how un-level the floor may be. I did however decide this time to put the 2 leg section on the horn side of the anvil as it is more likely to be struck horizontally.
